The Region of Dafnes

Legend has it that the village took its name from a laurel which grew in the temple of the Holy Cincture. Dafnes is known for the celebrated "dafniano" wine, sought after since the 13th century.

Modern Dafnes is a picturesque village of 1400 inhabitants, situated 18 km south of Heraklion. The surrounding area is abundant with vineyards and olive trees that spread over sun-bathed hillsides, an image so typical of the Heraklion rural areas.
